Woolacotts awarded Loddon Prison project

8 January 2013

Woolacotts has been awarded another Victorian prison project.

Loddon Prison is a medium security facility near Castlemaine. It accommodates 280 prisoners serving short, medium and long-term sentences for a range of offences, as well as prisoners with disabilities or other complex needs.

The prison replaced Castlemaine Gaol, which serviced the goldfields and surrounding towns since the 1860s.

The landscaped grounds, modern buildings and activities provide an environment which, as closely as possible, resembles those available in the general community.

Woolacotts will deliver a 120 bed expansion of the prison for the Victorian Department of Justice. The expansion is part of the government’s ongoing plan to modernise and upgrade Victoria’s prison system.

Work has commenced on the civil and structural design for multi-storey accommodation buildings; medical and recreation facilities; an industries building; and car parking.

“We have been involved in some excellent projects in Victoria, including Dhurringile Prison. This further cements our presence in the state and highlights our corrections expertise,” said Woolacotts Director, Stephen Branch.

The project is due for completion in 2014.
