Woolacotts were engaged to provide Structural and Civil Engineering services for the recent construction and design of the Ultimo Pop-Up School. The Ultimo Pop-Up School was recognised at the Australian Institute of Project Management Awards in August 2018, with a High Commendation in the Small Projects category.
The pop-up school, located next to Wentworth Park Greyhounds Track will hold 360 students throughout 14 classrooms for the next two years while the original school is re-developed to hold an additional 500 students. The students from Ultimo Public School will also have access to a canteen, library and outdoor play area as part of the temporary campus.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian stated:
Ultimo has been transformed over the last decade into a cosmopolitan urban community, which is reflected in the design of this brand new school,”
The design of the new pop-up school has utilised a mix of internal and external spaces, challenging the common misconception that demountable workplaces are uninspiring. The final result consists of contemporary colours and spaces to provide a stimulating environment for students who attend the school.
Rob Stokes, NSW Minister for Education stated:
This project is a fantastic educational village. It is my great hope that the students not only enjoy their time here, but excel.”
The pop-up school is expected to facilitate classes for the students until the end of the school year in 2019. Woolacotts have worked on a variety of education projects. To view our other projects and case studies, head to our education projects page here.
