The City of Sydney is providing a new two-way cycleway to connect Bondi Junction to the Sydney CBD. Woolacotts Consulting Engineers have been engaged to provide Civil Engineering services for this project, which is due to begin construction in 2019.
The cycleway is proposed to be located along the westbound lane of Moore Park Road, continuing through Fitzroy Street, and aims to provide a safe and connected cycle route for people of all ages and riding abilities. As reported by Sydney Cycleways,
This new cycleway along Moore Park Road will enhance safety along an important regional cycle link between Bondi Junction and the city centre. The two-way separated facility will link the existing cycleway along the northern edge of Centennial Park (Oxford Street) to the existing shared path on Fitzroy Street and the Bourke Street cycleway in Surry Hills.”
Woolacotts have been engaged to provide civil engineering plans for the following scope of works within this project:
- Relocation of existing eastbound single cycle lane to a two way cycle lane located to the south of Moore Park Road (westbound lane)
- Relocation of all traffic lanes
- Relocation of central planted median including the replacement/relocation of all trees and garden beds
- Construction of an additional median to segregate cycleway and road carriageway
- Retention of northern and southern kerbs
Woolacotts Head of Civil Engineering Justin Chirillo stated:
We are excited to be involved in this cycleway project, which will greatly improve accessibility and safety for cyclists in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and CBD. Our civil engineering team will be applying skills and expertise learnt through our involvement in a wide portfolio of cycleway projects around Sydney.”
Woolacotts have designed a range of cycleways around Sydney, including:
- Union St Cycleway, Pyrmont
- Kent Street Cycleway, Sydney
- College St Cycleway, Sydney
- Campbell St Cycleway, Surry Hills
- Broadway Cycleway, Ultimo
