Schofields Public School, which has celebrated 100 years in 2019 and recieved a much needed upgrade to accommodate the growing student population in the area
Several of the existing classroom and administrative buildings on the site were past their serviceable life and were demolished to provide the space for the new facilities. A temporary school was constructed on the site to accommodate the school while the new facilities were constructed.
Our Role
The main element of the new facilities is a two storey building incorporating 27 new teaching spaces, new library and administration areas, with new flexible learning spaces and upgraded facilities to accommodate up to 600 students.
Prestressed concrete was adopted for the upper floor to economically provide large span areas to suit the new teaching spaces and provide future planning flexibility. The library is located in a two storey atrium space at the eastern corner of the building, incorporating full height glazing on the two elevations.
Civil Works
Externally there was a significant upgrade to landscaping to provide better wayfaring and a student friendly environment.
Issues with Council’s drainage infrastructure causes periodic flooding on the playing fields on the lower portion of the site.
We were required to undertake a flood study of the affected Council infrastructure and determine the peak flood level and the flood extent on the school site to verify that this impact on the school facilities.
