Reporter Airlie Walsh took viewers behind bars for a close-up look at ‘Australia's toughest new prison’.
Cessnock Correctional Centre is a minimum and maximum security prison for men located in the New South Wales Hunter region.
Woolacotts was engaged as part of the $97 million project to provide civil and structural design and documentation for a 250 bed extension.
The two-year project has seen a new purpose-built maximum security centre – the first of its kind in the country – built within the existing correctional complex.
The upgrade means that the facility can now house more than 750 inmates while they serve out their sentence.
The Woolacotts brand is synonymous with prison design, having completed countless projects for governments around Australia and New Zealand. Other correctional centre projects completed by Woolacotts include South Coast Correctional Centre, Dhurringile Prison, and Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison.
