Role
Structural and civil engineer

Lorne Killara is a 40 unit residential project of two and three bedroom homes developed by Fraser Greencliff and architecturally designed by DWP|Suters.

The five storey building also has two basement carpark levels, and sits on a steep site with a high water table.

Our role

Woolacotts Consulting Engineers was selected as a project partner because of its significant experience in developing structures and foundations for complex sites.

Our appointment as structural and civil engineers was to fully document the project.

Basement car park

The basement car park required a significant retaining wall and was designed as a combination of anchored steel soldier piers and shotcrete walls. The floor slabs are constructed of conventional reinforced concrete.

Project challenges

A project challenge that we resolved was to preserve the architectural form and work with the steepness of the site.

Woolacotts was in constant consultation with all design consultants to develop a complex floor structure with irregular and non-linear column positions, transfer beams and frequent set-downs.

Woolacotts also designed the structure with an ecologically smart light weight concrete wall system that reduced construction time and cost, and improved the thermal properties of the development.
